Cathedral Grove

Cathedral Gove is a great setting for shooting stunning shots with high contrasts in colours depending on the time of day you shoot. This was mid day so there is some burn out of the high lights in the top middle

Basking in the glow

I shot this great photo of a person sleeping on a bench in Ontario one evening just as the sun dipped below the horizon. I boosted the contrast to punch out the sunset for a neat special effect.

Life

Which came first the chicken or the egg? I am working on a series of images with the Food theme as the subject. Here are a couple to review...

Vivid

Here is a vivid image of a echinacea plant in my back yard. I boosted the contract and played with the lighting to give a very vibrant effect. Posted by Picasa

Flower Power

I saw some fall flowers coming up the other day and thought I would take a few quick pictures. I like the textures that this image has the most. Posted by Picasa

Vancouver

I was out at a meeting in Vancouver today when I saw this great shot. I like how the reflection appears so vibrant.

Out and about....

This weekend I spent some time down at the Adventure Games here in Nanaimo. There were lots of great shots but the sun was so bright and the shadows were very harsh. A few pictures turned out and I have posted them for you all to see.

Ottawa Airport

I recently went through the airport in Ottawa, Ontario and took this photo. It was a last second thing but I think it turned out ok.

Clowning Around

I was at the Vancouver Aquarium on the weekend and found this guy making some fun stuff for the kids. A very entertaining looking individual to say the least.

Out at the farm

This weekend was a time to get out and get back to nature a bit. I went with my family to a petting farm and that was the inspiration for the images that I took. Enjoy....

Mexico Memories

Hello All!!!

A few years back I went to Mexico for a holiday and my wife and I picked up a great piece of art. This bust is a dramatic piece that shows a great deal of depth and character.

The tones within the face take light and shadow very well. This for me was my first intentional attempt at shooting with side light. It sure gives the perception of depth.

Evening shots

Well tonight I thought I would head out and just snap pictures and test some of the things I have been reading about. I was looking at using front light and back light along with focusing on bringing colur out in some of the images. I think overall it was a success. Here are a couple of examples of what I did.

Life is a beach!!!

Well life is a beach. Living by the ocean has its benefits. Just about any time of day you can get great shots like this one I took a week or so ago. I was looking for something with impact that screamed West Coast Canadiana. Well if there is anything that reminds me more of the west coast of Canada it is driftwood shots like this on the beach. I was trying to show the beach and shoreline along with the vast expanse of sky and the amazing cloud formations in the distance. I think it turned out pretty good. It could have been a little darker but overall it shows what I wanted.

Give you the moon...

There is something to be said about the moon on a clear evening. Here is a picture I took on a camping trip not so long ago. I used a polarizing filter to punch out the clouds. It worked...

First Post

Well I have never set up a blog before and I am not sure how this all works. It is my intent to showcase some of the great images that I am taking here on Vancouver Island in British Columbia Canada. I hope anyone who reads this will comment and possibly exchange ideas for improving what we are doing. I recently got a Cannon EOS 8 MP camera and have found it to be a dream. Please let me know how you are doing in this medium.

This image was taken at dusk on the east coast of Vancouver Island near a town called Qualicum beach. It took several shots but I got the one I wanted. Enjoy!
